Went to NZ (South Island) over the 3-day long weekend – very beautiful. Highlight had to be the hot thermal pools at Hanmer Springs. 3 days wasn’t really long enough, but it was nice to get away for a break.
Well apart from documentation the servers are completed. Samba now working as a PDC with roaming profiles for my wife’s XP laptop, mail server finished and working with all the Horde issues now resolved. Running on a new motherboard, so seeing more of the 4GB RAM that’s in it, and able to connect 6 SATA … [Read more…]
The mail server is finished, although I suspect I’ll be tweaking it for a while yet. Final setup is postfix / postgrey / amavisd-new / spamassassin / clamav / cyrus / horde, all using OpenLDAP authentication over TLS with saslauthd for Cyrus and Postfix.I had been using procmail in between postfix and cyrus, but that … [Read more…]
I know I haven’t posted the Samba details yet, but I have been busy building the mail server. It’s running postfix, postgrey, amavisd-new, clamav, spamassassin, procmail, cyrus, and horde webmail. Getting there, Horde is working, but still a lot of detail to sort out.

I have been busy building a new server for home… our current ClarkConnect server runs out of support in a few months, and it’s so heavily changed from the standard install that I am unlikely to want to try and upgrade it. So it’s been back on the Linux distro trail again. I’m going down … [Read more…]
The medals are from someone completely unrelated to me, but show closeup of what I believe is the medal on the chest of the man in the last photo – George Gray. George Gray was my grandfather’s uncle. The medal is an Army Long Service and Good Conduct medal, and appears to have King Edward … [Read more…]
Well, a letter today from the South Australia BDM office – no record found for Brian Charles Besley born early 1866. Strange, his wedding certificate and the entry in the family bible both point to there. I’ll have to do some more digging!
