Huge day yesterday… after catching the train in to London Victoria station we walked over to Buckingham Palace. There were lots of people waiting for the changing of the guard, but we went down St James Park and saw them preparing at their barracks. From there we walked down the park to the Horse Guards parade ground and watched them do a guard change there. Over to Trafalgar Square, lunch at Pret a Manger (chocolate mousse… wow), and into the National Gallery to admire some incredible renaissance period paintings.
A walk down Whitehall to Westminster and Big Ben – we were going to go into Westminster Abbey, but there was a memorial service on for the Tunisian terrorist attack victims; apparently Prince Harry was there, but we didn’t see him. So we walked over Westminster Bridge and went around the London Dungeon – very cool… ask Katie about leeches! followed by the London Eye. Amazing views!
Underground back to Victoria in peak hour, and train back to Margaret’s. Off to Biggin Hill meeting with Margaret, Andrew, Lizzie and Elliott in the evening, and even managed to stay awake… just! Everyone very welcoming.
Today we go to Hampton Court, King Henry VIII’s palace, with its maze. If we get time we’ll head back to Westminster Abbey this afternoon, and then this evening it’s off to Les Miserables at the Queen’s Theatre.
I have to get ready to head out now, but will post some more pics from yesterday this evening! I have added a couple though – click on the image to go to the London gallery:
